Dark thoughts on souls ((open RP))
((This topic is meant as a journal or discussion on the use of souls in RP stories. It is made in the intent of sharing stories and ideas and can be altered if new information or ideas are found. PS: I'm also using it to further a storyline in game))nnOver my time wondering before I joined tribe nyx I encountered several interesting stories, many of which had only one thing in common. The soul, a very confusing thing, some base their entire lives around the preservation of it yet some deny its existance.nIt has been noted that some strong individuals are able to retrieve their souls from whatever happens after death and return to life under some circumstances. Several of these have mentioned that they seemed to retain their appearance and even keep the things they were wearing in their image. A theory on this is that the soul appears as a person sees themselves, this doesn't seem to have the same effect on night elves but they annoy me so I won't go into that.nnThe altering or eradication of souls in spells:nnSome spells such as a warlock's drain soul or a paladin's exorcism have odd effects on souls. Corruption or destruction of a soul is a constant threat with the high number of adversaries hoping to fight us. Among the stories I have heard there are a few stating that after the lich king's plague struck several victims who later found themselves under the banner of the scourge lost all emotion. This is not true of all of them as some have not noticed any such effect or are simply too focused. Another type of ill effect on souls is when a soul is bound to a particular purpose by a powerful spell caster, or a novice working with things more powerful than them. Some of the most succesful acts of violence or mayhem have happened for no better reason than an imprint on a persons soul, see Sargeras and Medivh.nnThe binding of souls; items and people:nnOne of the most interesting stories on the binding of souls is the origin of gul'dan's deathknights. The souls of powerful orc warlocks were bound to the defeated or empty bodies of humans to create a force that was much later copied by the lich king. Less common stories involve "talking armor and weapons" which can sometimes be created by binding a powerful soul to an item. This approach has been used for many things including letting a soul live on when a body is going to be destroyed, imprisoning an enemy, or in the case of a very unwitting bloodelf warlock accidentaly summoning themselves into their hat ((it was hilarious at the time)). nnMore research pending:nnThis is currently the limit of what I have heard and seen. If there are more stories about this I would love to hear them for my research. That is alln -Darkclouded Lynxen Ebonclaw.

Re: Dark thoughts on souls ((open RP))
Life without a soul:nnas much as some people may deny it, it is very possible. Emotion believed to be stored in the soul is usually a sacrifice of such a life. Sometimes the victim's personality is entirely replaced. Even then some people have no effects whatsoever. As much as I would love to say otherwise my studies have no exact knowledge of what the soul is or what it does.nnThe host complex:nnIt is a very dangerous idea to bind a soul to someone who already has one. Especialy with a fully developed soul from an adult who has experienced several things. One outcome has been recorded as both souls being destroyed completely in the time that would be used to decide which would have control. A different story details how the victim of a soul bind was forced to be heard in thought only until the intruding soul was stressed to the point where it surrendered control for a short time. Possibly the most dangerous outcome is that the souls coexist, sharing thoughts about solutions to problems or ways to defeat an enemy. This is dangerous for a simple reason, the recipients of it can draw on twice as much experience, understand things that some others normaly wouldn't, and react much more quickly.nnnAlteration of mind and body:nnIt has been noted by some that leaving a soul in the victim's body but changing the way it acts can change the thoughts, personality, and even appearance of the victim. Possibly one of the more severe punishments for a crime I witnessed was that the ability to act in such a way was entirely removed from the criminal's mind. This may not seem bad until you realize that it is a violation of free will, they have changed the person irreversably causing the way they act to be altered. To make matters worse they also changed the human who commited the crime into a gnome. This changed my opinion on the punishment from confusion and shock to finding it funny, I just don't like gnomes.nn- Darkclouded Lynxen Ebonclaw

Re: Dark thoughts on souls ((open RP))
darkclouded looks up from his last entry slightly annoyed from his arguement with grethem after he mentioned fire magic. "and that's why they wont find THIS until I let them...". The book is shoved into a hiding place behind one of the soot vents in darkwhisper gorge. All that shows is the top of a page reading:n n How to harness souls:nndark turns and leaves confident that the book can't be found.

Grethem wandered into the Filthy Animal holding an ironbound tome in his hand. He approached the hearth and sat in front of it. He looked between the hearth and the tome, thinking about what he had experienced.nnIt wasn't who he was... by all rights he should simply toss the tome into the fire and be rid of the forsaken thing. He stroked the alien runes on the spine, muttering to himself.nn"It's evil... it doesn't matter if it's never found... it shouldn't be found, not by me or anyone else..." he stretched his hand closer to the fire, but beyond his own choice slowly pulled back. Every nerve in his body, mind, and soul told him to toss the tome into the fire and be rid of it, but it was as if he was completely unable. nnGrethem gave a sigh and stood up, he would just have to bury it somewhere. He turned around and made for the door.

Re: Dark thoughts on souls ((open RP))
darkclouded having returned from hiding his book walks into a corner of the filthy animal inn to sit down and relax. He looks up surprised when he sees grethem. Dark waits and is quiet to avoid the urge to confront his earlier verbal opponent. Grethem appears to be contemplating throwing a strange book in the fire, a book that seems to intrigue dark. When grethem finaly leaves the inn darkclouded shifts to cat form and follows as quietly as he can. ...He WILL get that book..

Grethem looked around him, he had the eerie sensation of being watched and followed. He continued along his way, trying to lose himself in the crowd. No good. He would have to find somewhere quiet to subdue his unseen stalker.nnHe walked calmly to the entrance of the sewers, and rounded a corner. When he was halfway down the hallway he turned around and quickly sent a blast of howling gale to his back to reveal who was following him.nnGrethem looked down to the form of his stalker with a look of disappointment on his face, "What do you want, Dark?"

n nDark tries to grin but looks closer to snarling "What a tribe member cant keep a conversation without it being over the hearthstone? ah well". Dark backs up and jumps to a lower part of the sewers and moves to a bit of shade to regain his stealth. Of course he can't let grethem think he's won "Nice book by the way, going back on our last conversation?" and with that he decides to be more careful with his sneaking.Grethem wrote:Grethem looked around him, he had the eerie sensation of being watched and followed. Grethem could not allow that to be the end of it. He sent another blast of wind down the hall which was then reflected back and pushed Dark to him.nnHe held the tome up to his face and spoke with a tone of seriousness, "What do you know about this tome?" trying not to reveal anything about it's nature was difficult, any dissuasion he might use would only make him pursue further.nn"Speak now, because I'm not letting you leave without an answer." he said, still holding the tome up.

Dark saw a chance to annoy grethem and happily took it. "Well it looks like a book, smells like a book," touched the book with a claw "feels like a book, probably tastes like a book and is oddly familiar like a book. SOOOOO I'm guessing it's a book. Then again you normaly wouldn't hide it on your person if it wasn't important... well you wouldn't hide it ANYWHERE if it wasn't important" with that he grinned as threateningly as he could and tried to look innocent.

Re: Dark thoughts on souls ((open RP))
Grethem maintained a mild expression, "You are young and foolish... you would do well to answer me with some truth... now tell me, why did you take such deliberate stealth in following me, if all you wanted to do was have a chat." He said, with an almost rhetorical air.
