Advanced warning - I need to step down

This past month has been stressful with some situations in Nyx. That lead me to take a break, and things were getting back to normal. Additional stress has come up in real life due to uncertainty about my husband's health. The end result is that he is going to have to have heart surgery to fix an aneurysm in his aorta. The aneurysm is currently small so it does not have to be done immediately, but the doctor does want to do the surgery fairly soon. Currently the plan is to do it in January or February.nnThis will not be an easy surgery. It involves putting him on a heart/lung machine, cutting him open, spreading the ribs and working on his aorta. He will be in the hospital for at least 5 days and recuperating and unable to work for at least 6 weeks, possibly more. As I understand it, the full recovery will take even longer. Like any surgery, there are risks, and I have to say that the idea of this surgery scares me even though it's a fairly well established surgery.nnI was in a state of shock for a couple weeks and slowly the reality is setting in.nnNow this week my husband has been diagnosed with type II diabetes. I get to go with him to diabetes training for 5 weeks and we get to redo our eating habits.nnI have struggled with the stress that real life has handed me over the past year with my back, back surgery, major drama with one of my daughter's friends that has led to him moving in with us and that drama is still not over, and the stress that goes with being a senior officer in a large guild. This is only going to make it worse. I am going to have to do something to simplify my life, and the things I have control over are my volunteer obligations. I am going to need to step down to Elder by January at the latest so that I can focus on real life. The officers are currently working on plans to take up the slack for when I retire from being an officer.

<hugs> I hope everything goes well. You'll be in my thoughts. I know I'm one of the new guys, but I've enjoyed bging and what not with you, so selfishly I hope you don't fully disappear. Anyways. Take care of yourself. :)

nThat won't be a problem, Machik. I intend to continue playing, but just more casually. I need the stress relief of killing a few mobs when I feel like strangling {fill in the blank with my boss, my kids, the dogs, whatever other in-duh-vidual is pissing me off at the minute} and to get away from reality just for fun. With all the stress going on in my life, I do need something that is purely escapist fun.nnAnd I will still be in Nyx playing on toons in Nyx. I've been around long enough to understand that all guilds have problems and all guilds have their ups and downs. I've been in Nyx for almost 3 1/2 years and I've seen enough of them here, and more in other guilds, both the ones I've been in and the ones my friends have been in, in the 4 1/2 years I've been playing WoW. I don't care if Nyx ends up as a guild of one and that one is me, I'm not leaving. I don't expect it to come to that though. As long as the leadership remains committed to doing what is right for the guild, we will pull through even when they make mistakes. I have two alts in the guild and I plan on bringing in two more that I will be puttering around with.

Glad you plan on sticking around. Seeing the game as a form of stress relief rather than as another job should be a refreshing change of pace!

I wish you and yours the best in the future.nnGaming with you has been, and hopefully will continue to be a very enjoyable experience. Real life, of course, takes priority. I am glad that you'll still be on casually, but if at any point you have to break all ties with the game, I (and everyone else) understand.nnAs for the stress that comes with the game and being a higher officer in a large guild, I do not envy you or anyone who does it. I would /facedesk several times an hour. But by all means it is not all negative at all. This is the most enjoyable and successful guild I've ever been a part of in any game. The good times by far outweigh the negatives. Don't sweat the few negatives. Thank you for what you've done to help make this guild what it is today.

You have my deepest respect and admiration for what you have done here in Nyx. I pray that your husband will make a full recover. I am a Type II diabetic and know exactly what that means.nn"I don't care if Nyx ends up as a guild of one and that one is me, I'm not leaving."nAmen.nnGod Bless.nnBill
