Thanoss wrote:I joined the Azerothian Dreamers on Thanoss when he was level 6. I leveled up at what I'd consider a normal rate for awhile, but I actually found myself avoiding RP situations. Looking back I know why: I was trying to play a character who felt superior to others, yet was often many levels below everyone. It felt like there was no point to RP when I looked unseasoned. Then when I hit 56 the Dreamers had a meeting, and I was promoted to a position that was essentially the person in charge of dark RP plots, a role so fitting for Thanoss that RPing with him became a must. I was 61 by the next day.nnThis is an example of how helping people with RP can often be mistaken as a G&N kind of thing. Just because someone is below 60, everyone assumes they're meant to be someone young or inexperienced in character, and this isn't always the case. In my mind, Thanoss was supposed to be some great and powerful warlock at level 6. To everyone else "he had a lot to learn", until he hit 80, at which point *surprise* he acted the exact same, just taken more seriously by everyone else.nnKnow what I want to see? I want to see someone become amazing at RP, roll a level 1 character, create an awesome backstory, and RP Thanoss to his knees without so much as gaining a level (and believe me, I HATE making Thanoss submissive, but I'll do it when it's earned). I defy anyone who says it can't be done.
nnI can kind of understand the thinking behind lowbies being considered weak.. I mean what kinda big powerful bad-ass gets 2-shotted by a raptor in the Barrens? That's why I don't tend to have my characters be powerful in RP at early levels, I roll with the punches during the leveling experience and then later on incorporate those experiences into the character's backstory if applicable.

nnThough it is possible a character is wise/old/has a very controlling personality, but is not necessarily battle hardened.nnBut this is a problem if you want to roleplay someone old and battlehardened from the beginning, you don't just leap from being fresh from the valley of trials to being a haggard old veteran.

n((maybe the orc in the valley of trials IS old and battlehardened. perhaps they were in the northrend building team, a guard of some sort, got frozen by a frostwyrm and over the months of being frozen their memory was lost. Lost and alone they could be traveling the frozen tundra, living off gorlocks and the kindness of a wandering penguin flock, until finaly they are taken back to the valley of trials to get nursed back to health.))nn((Not saying it's likely but in a world where everyone seems perfectly willing to claim they are some demigod's half-brother's nephew's local car salesman stories like this aren't too hard to find in anything.))nn((as for the original purpose of this topic I still strongly suggest that at least a step is taken to begin the process of an RP apprenticeship program while we are on our recent string of good news))

Did we determine if this falls under Lore of G&N? Please decide. And then lets get the topic moved to the proper jurisdictional area so that the members of that Ward can be directed to involvement.
