Farstrider Square.. The sound of music fills the air, and the streets overflow with revelers, with a small path between them for an Arcane Sentry to pass through. Off in a far corner, away from all the others sat a small child with long fiery-red hair that fell past his shoulders, dressed entirely in rags. The smell of sweet rice wine and honey bread fills the air, and the feeling of merriment lightens up the atmosphere.
Two revelers linger near the corner, conversing with one another, eying the child from afar. "Is that the Duskwraith kid?" The dark haired one asked. "Yeah. Didn't you hear what happened to his parents?" The elderly one replied, keeping the volume at a minimum in order to restrain it from the child's hearing. "I heard about that. They say he's the last survivor of his kind." The dark haired female Highborne expresses a look of shock. "Does that mean he..?" The elderly male only responds with a nod, and they return to the party, leaving the child back to his own dark thoughts, head slumped over his shoulders in a deep depression.
As the festivities begin to mellow out, the host appears open his balcony overhead, glass of rice wine in hand. He pulls back a tuft of blond hair, his bright blue eyes sparkling in the streetlights. "Good eve my fellow Quel'dorei brethren. I sincerely hope you enjoyed the party held tonight in my honor." A few girls giggle in the crowd, causing him to give a coy grin. "I hope everyone has a good night, and a safe journey home. I endearly hope to see you all next season. For the Sunwell, and to Prince Kael'thas!" The crowd erupts with appraisal, and few downed their goblets to the toast as the Highborne retreated to his chambers.
Not even a few seconds later, a scream is heard within the Highborne's chamber, and he comes stumbling back onto the balcony, toppling over the railing onto the ground below. The revelers disperse in panic, while a few edged closer to the body. A small wooden dagger lay pierced within his chest, blood still oozing freshly from the wound. Another scream is heard, and a female Highborne points at a darkened figure leering over the top railing down into the crowd.
Among the frantic screaming, running, and mass hysteria, Royal Guards begin pouring into the scene, and rush into the slain Highborne's home. As they reach the Master Chamber, the dark figure glances over its shoulder at its pursuers, and leaps over the railing, falling soundlessly onto the streets below, and losing itself within the crowd.
The guards give chase, following the stranger all through Eversong. Suddenly it ducks within a group heading back into Silvermoon, and the guards lose sight. As the shady figure makes it back into the city walls, they relax slightly in order to catch their breath. As it glances back towards the entrance to the city, the Guards are just making their way into the city. One of them catches a glimpse of the shaded figure, and continues to give chase, heading towards Murder Row. As they reach a side street, the figure is nowhere to be found. A guard slams a fist against a nearby stone in anger, and stares in shock as the end of the alleyway gives way to reveal a worn door.
As the guards file into the door, they come into a small barren room, with nothing but a small figure huddled in the corner, sobbing. As they near the darkened corner, they realize the Duskwraith child, curled up in the corner, looking up at them, tears streaming down his face. One of the guards grabs the child by the collar of his tunic, pulling up to meet his face. "Were you that bastard, kid?!" The guard yells, flinging the child about in his arm. "Were you that bastard that killed that man?! Answer me!" The guard begins to swing a fist in attempt to punch the child in the face, but is suddenly stopped as another's hand graps his forearm.
The others give way as Lor'themar Theron makes his way towards the child, releasing his grasp on the guard's forearm. He retrieves the child from the stammering guard, and places him upon the destroyed tabletop in the center of the room, and turns back towards the guards. "Alright. I have this taken care of. You are relieved of your duties for the evening.." The guard that attacked the child finally caught his tongue, and began to protest, but Lor'themar pointed towards the door. "Out!" As the guards filed out, he turned back to the tear streaked child, forcing a weak grin.
"It's okay, child. You are safe now." He says, wiping a tear from the boy's eyes. "I know you cannot take blame to what occurred this evening." He squats down to eye level, studying the child. His once bright red hair is now dirty and plastered against his skull, and his childish, bright blue eyes are now darked and dull, expressing the extensive change due to the tragedy that recently occurred. After a moment's silence, Lor'themar's smile returns, and he breaks the silence. "I believe I have an idea." He peers around, making sure the guards are gone. "There is an Orphanage in a nearby Human city, Stratholme. I believe you might feel more comfortable there. Besides, you cannot live here alone! How would you care for yourself?" The child doesn't respond, but gazes up at the Regent Lord, dim blue eyes showing a hint of their youthful sparkle.
" Let's get you out of here. There is a merchant that travels from Silvermoon back to Stratholme every evening. Perhaps we can catch up to him before he departs. Let's make haste!" The two leave the alleyway, heading back towards Silvermoon's main entrance. As they near the gate, a swarm of guards come from the Walk of Elders, speeding towards the two. As they reach the exit, the guards close in on Lor'themar and the child, and brandish their swords. "Give him up, Lor'themar! Kael'thas wants to speak with him!" As they grab the child, Lor'themar suddenly lands a punch on the guards chin, allowing the child to wrench himself free, and flee towards the Merchant's cart. "Run Redflare! Get away from here!" As the child leaps into the cart, Lor'themar finally releases the guards, and smiles at the retreating merchant, carrying child in tow en route to Stratholme.
