Krummy's Story

My given name is Krumm'tar, however my friends call me Krummy.

I have no personal memory of my parents, but since visiting the libraries left in the ruins of Lordaeron, I have discovered that my father served the war chief Blackhand in the second war. It was during this time that I was born. Shortly after the war, my father returned home and my younger brother was born. Life was probably happy for us during this time, but it was not to last.

A few months later, our village was attacked by mercenaries. All of the men (including my father) were killed, and the women and children were sold into slavery. My brother Gramish and I were sold together to the Venture Company.

For a few years, my brother and I served as slaves in the harsh jungles of Stranglethorn Vale, cutting down trees and building developments in the wild. The work there was harsh - the stifling heat, biting insects, and the constant threat of tiger, panther, or raptor attack. With the hard work in the jungle at such a young age, however, my brother and I grew strong.

A few years later, we were informed by our goblin overseer that we had been bought by an old gnome warlock, Smithwick, who was to take us far north to his home in Lordaeron. My brother and I boarded a ship that sailed north to take us to our new home.

Life with Smithwick was much easier than the slave labor we had experienced in the Vale. He treated us kindly and fed us well. We worked hard for him, but were never whipped or beaten. He even gave us small amounts of copper and silver for our work.

Soon, however, things took a turn for the worse. Smithwick, seeing potential in us, began giving us lessons in the evenings, opening us up to the dark arts. We were taught to use magic to inflict pain and suffering upon others - cursing them, using magic to give them agonizing pain, and even sapping their life energy in order to strengthen our own. My brother and I were powerful, indeed, but the sway of the dark arts soon took over. Gramish and I soon found ourselves unable to control our power. We became puppets of the gnome. We were sent to unsuspecting houses at night, robbing and stealing, putting curses upon those who lived there. We were used in rituals to summon evil demons from beyond. We were used to intimidate and threaten. We were used to kill.

I soon learned the consequences of what we were doing and I tried to tell my brother, Gramish. Gramish, however, was indeed powerful and did not want to forsake the teachings of the gnome. When Arthas invaded Lordaeron, the entire region was plunged into chaos. Smithwick himself was caught up in the fight when our village was attacked by the Scourge. To this day I do not know whether he is alive or dead.

With Smithwick gone, I pleaded for my brother to escape. He would not listen. The more I pleaded with him, the angrier he became. We began to fight, hurling bolts of shadow and flame at each other. Gramish, being stronger in the dark arts, was able to weaken me to the point where he was draining my very life essence. I could feel life being sucked out of my soul. With every ounce of strength I had left, I was able put a horrific vision into Gramish's mind, causing him to flee with terror.

Close to death, I realized that I needed to perform one last dark spell. I stumbled to the place where the scourge had massacred my village and found a young girl who had been attacked by a ghoul. I knew that in a matter of moments, she would become part of the undead army. In this moment, I performed a dark ritual, one that I knew to be my last. I focused all of the mana left within my body and sapped her life essence inside of a Life Stone. Using this Life Stone, I was able to regain my strength and escape.

After that dark day, I renounced the ways of a warlock. I knew that there was still power within me, but I affirmed to channel my energy away from the energy of the demonic and into the energy of the Earth Mother. From that day, I became a follower of Shamanism.

For many years, I wandered both Azeroth and Kalimdor, training to become stronger in the Shamanistic ways. I fought against the Legion, I fought against the Alliance, and I grew strong in the Earth Mother. I have also meditated long and hard, hoping to find some sign of my brother.

A few days ago, I was deep in meditation when the Earth Mother gave me a vision. I was told that I needed to seek out Nyx.

I had no idea who or what Nyx was, only that it was instrumental in finding my brother, Gramish. One day, while resting in Orgrimmar, I overheard the name Nyx. I talked with the members of Nyx, and they informed me about the Lady Nyx, her goals, and her purpose. I know that this meeting was no coincidence.

I believe that the Earth Mother has led me to follow the Lady Nyx, and that her power can help me find my brother. Hopefully, I can win her approval...

Barefoot was very pleased by her unexpected meeting with Krumm'tar. The story he told of his brother was heartbreaking and intriguing at the same time. While passing through the guild library, she noticed he had already added his tale to the guild's collection, so she sat down to read a more detailed version of what he'd told her.

Although Krummy's history was even sadder than she'd realized, Barefoot smiled when she finished reading. I'm glad he shared this, she thought to herself. I really think that once he earns the trust of Lady Nyx she will very helpful with his plight.
