A lonely unlife

Yes, there is a point to this random RP. Setting up something I'll be doing soon, and should have done long ago. Those in the know should know what this is about. ;)

Staring around her makeshift "office", Tomoyo couldn't help but wonder at the series of unlikely events that had brought her to this place, at this time. A mere slip of a country girl, sent off to study at Dalaran, a bare few months, a mere blink of the eye for an High Elf, before the Scourge lay waste to her homeland. Then after only a brief taste of the power that could be hers, and with her heart filled with hate and despair, having her life cruelly cut short by the Scourge hordes, peppered with arrows from some Dark Ranger, maybe even the Dark Queen Sylvanas herself.

And yet now here she is, having suffered through the torture of being a part of the Scourge, breaking free thanks to the battle of wills of the Banshee Queen and the Lich King, and somehow, through dangers she could not once have imagined as the country girl she once was, surviving more or less intact. As intact as one can be when the Priests have needed to resurrect your unliving body after falling in battle more times than she cares to remember, in any case.

More amazing than that, would be that she survived in Nyx's service full stop. The Dark Lady knows, has always known, where her loyalties truly are. Or were. Even she doesn't know herself anymore. Sylvanas's instructions to her, when the Children were disbanded, were to spy on the Lady Nyx's actions, report back, and to work towards assuring the loyalty of her minions to Sylvanas and the Horde above Nyx's own goals. True, she still sends regular reports, but those are practically automatic now. The zeel she once felt, as an Oathsworn of the Dark Queen, has long since faded. Now, all that remains in its place is jaded cynicism. It's odd though, how the two Dark Ladies she serve can be so similar. So capricious. Unforgiving of any failure, of any betrayal, but yet neither seems to care about her divided loyalties. The Lady Nyx has even joked about the reports, intruded on her while she wrote them, read them in full, reminded her to send one out when she hasn't done so in a while. By rights, she should be nothing but a pile of ash by now, her soul sucked into some netherworld for the Lady Nyx's amusement. Tomoyo can't help but feel like she's being played by both sides, ever clueless to their true objectives.

Speaking of paperwork....Tomoyo lets out a groan that could only come from the unliving, as her eyes turn back to the piles of paper on her desk. Missives from all over Azeroth and Outland, letters from hopeful applicants to the Lady Nyx's service, the minutes of long drawn out meetings, the never ending stream of battlefield commissions for Bhootam and others...perhaps she is being punished for her divided loyalties after all.

As the Lady Nyx returned to whatever nether realm she appeared from, Tomoyo could only slump back in her seat, her unblinking eyes wide. Did she just...win?

She laughs slightly to herself. No, of course she hasn't. She planned this, didn't she? Nyx would never agree to something she didn't think was in her best interests. And just one look around this cramped office space, wall to wall with parchment, was enough to convince anyone that her having a little help would probably go a long way. But wasn't this supposed to be her punishment, for her fence sitting and devided loyalties?

Then again, the Lady Nyx's actions never did make any proper sense. But still, to have her agree to her request, so quickly and without any snide comments...somehow, Tomoyo couldn't help but be worried at that. What did the Lady know, that she didn't? What lies just over the horizon?
