Svalina had finished her work for the day. As was her custom she went to the orphange in Orgrimaar to where the war orphans lived at to spend time with the little ones. The matron greeted her warmly when she arrived and cought her up on all the latest happenings with the children. After a few moment talk, she went in to the main room where the children lived. The children were alway excited to see her seeing so few adults ever visited other then during childrens week. She had brought Sleepy Willy with her who had of course taken to playing with the children. But Willy tired quickly and was soon asleep in the arms of a little orc girl. After much talking of those matter oh so importand to children, the children started pestering her for a story for she always told them a great tales of wonder, of hero's and of the wide world outside of the orphange and the capital of Orgrimaar. After much pleading and tearfull beseaching she agreed to tell them a story, but first they had to all be ready to go to bed. The last tasty treats and sweets for the day were passed about (she always brought something for the children to eat) and the children got into thier night clothes. Some curled up in thier bunks while others gathered on the cushions near by while the matron put more wood on the fire that warmed the hall. Svalina prepared her self a cup of tea while considering which story she would tell tonight. Finally all was ready.
Tonight children I will tell you the story of how wind serpents came to be, and the most beuteous of them all known today as "Washte Pawne". The children oh'd a this, and she waited for them to talk between them selves a little before she continued.
Once apon a time there wer no wind serpends in the world. Serpents were creatures of the ground alone and the most striking of these was the serpent "Pawne" which ment "pretty one". Pawne was indeed pretty as serpents go and she (yes she..for Pawne is a girl) had many suitors, and many eggs. Now, you may not know this but serpents are immortal as long as they have one egg left before thier body dies. They will be reborn in the last egg, hatch and live again with all thier memories. Now the birds of the air knew that they were the prettiest of all the creatures of the world (yes birds can be very vain) and took umbrage that Pawne was noted by many creatures far and wide to be the prettiest of all. They became quite jelouse, the girl birds especially (they were very brightly plumed then, but more on that later) for they dispised serpents for the habit they made now and again of stealing and eating eggs out of the nests of birds. (even though some birds did the same to serpents nests) Well the girl birds came up with a plan. They would steal away Pawne's last egg so that when Pawne's current body died there would be no more Pawne, and then all would consider birds the prettiest of all creatures, especially girl birds. Well, as you know birds are not the smartest of creatures, and they could not tell which of Pawne's aggs would be the last one, so they took them all. And as fast as Pawne would lay a new egg, the birds would steel them away. Such was pawne's sadness and distress that word came to the guardian spirit of serpents what had been happening. Well the serpent spirit spoke with its sister the bird spirit about the matter, and both agreed that this was a terrible thing. The bird spirit vowed to correct the matter before sunset that day on one condition. Never again would serpents eat the eggs of bird, and of course no bird would eat the eggs of serpents. The serpent spirit agreed of course for it was a most fair agreement of benifit to both birds and serpents and the spirits went thier seperate ways. The bird spirit had vowed to see all of Pawne's eggs returned and brought all the worlds birds to the great spirit tree and told them of this decision. But the girl birds grew angry when they heard the bird spirit refer to Pawne as "the beutiful serpent Pawne". All of Pawne's eggs were returned to Pawne's many nests but one. This of course was the last egg. Now Pawne had become so distressed that she had rejected all her suitors and had stopped laying eggs. And when girl serpents can no longer lay eggs they soon die. Thus the end of the day came. Pawne saw that all of her eggs had been returned and also saw that her last egg had not. Knowing her doom was apon her she called out to the serpent spirit so that he would know, and before the sun rose the next morning Pawne was dead. The serpent spirit was angry beyond words and stormed to the place of the bird spirit demanding of his sister how she could break a solomn oath between them. The bird spirit bade her brother to grant her an hour to find out what had happed for she had made it known to the bird what they must do. Summoning all the birds of the world to the great tree she commanded obedience to her will and an explaination as to why her oath had been so violated! The boy birds knew nothing of what had happened stateing truthfully that they had complied with the bird spirit wishes. When she asked of the female birds a great noise arose of bitter complaint againt beutifull Pawne, and how other creature that Pawne more beutifull then the girl birds. The bird spirit was shocked beyond words and became very very angry, for the girl birds had broken the bird spirits vow! And soon all the spirits of all the creatures would belive birds not to be trusted. The hour she had asked of the serpent spirit was nearly up. Quickly using her spirit powers she sought out Pawne's last egg. Finding the egg she discovered it weak and damaged for the girl birds had not taken any care or concern of the life inside. Checking about she discovered all of Pawne's eggs that had been returned had been damages in some way. Gathering all of Pawne's eggs she brought them to her own nest and there sat apon them warming them with her own body and using her wonderous powers to try and heal the damage that had been caused. As she sat apon the eggs gazed apon the female birds her were now, for once, very very quiet. She pronounced her judgement. with a swepp of her wing all the bright and beutifull plumage of the female birds was taken away. The male birds who had been utterly truethfull with her were granted the bright and colorfull feathers and the girls left drab, and plain. not a word would she hear from the girls birds and dismissed them all back to the real world. The male birds made thier obiecence, thatnked the bird spirit for her judgement and soon flew off to the mortal realm much happier for the change for they also were quite tired of the vanity of the girl birds and know that the girls would never again be vain. The serpent spirit which had been curled up around a branch nearby came forward and made his peace with the bird spirit for he saw that his sister had indeed done her very best. Right then and there he told her he would honor the vow he had made to her inspite of the great tragady of beutifull Pawne's passing. Suddenly a sound was heard from the eggs. They were hatching! And they were HUNGRY! (like all new born babies) Knowing not what else to do the bird spirit pierced her own breast with her beak and let forth her own blood to feed the new born and hungry baby serpents. When the serpent children partook of the bird spirits blood a wonderous thing happened! They started growing wings! Every last one of them, boy or girl grew wonderous wonderous wings! The Bird Spirit and the Serpent Spirit were amazed for such a thing had never happen before in all of time. There was one last egg though unhatched. (the children all ohhhed together for they could almost guess what came next) It was of course, the last egg, the one that house Pawne's spirit. the egg shook, and rolled a bit and then it did another thing that had also never happend before. It Grew Larger! bit by bit it become bigger and bigger and Bigger untill it was as ig as a full grown serpent! the egg split to reveal at last a fully grown Pawne, but a a differnt pawne for this Pawne also had wings. The bird spirit and her brother the serpent spirit gazed abon the newly hatched Pawne with wonder, and both agreed that Pawne must have a new name for Pawne was simply to small a name for this new thing. The bird spirit spoke. "I have warmed you within my own nest and now give you this new name. You will for ever be know from this time forward as Washte Pawne, which is to say Beutifull serpent of the wind" Her brother the serpent spirit agreed and the pack made there which stands to this day which is why serpents and birds do not prey on one anothers eggs. And so were born the Wind Serpents, all the children of Washte Pawne. And also why all girl birds are so plain, and boy birds so bright. The children all agreed that it was a most wonderfull story as the Matron showed Svalina out for the night. The children all pleaded that she return soon to tell them another story to which she readily agreed to do, and bade them now to thier beds for the hour was late and they were all good childen and good children always knew when it was thier bed time. There was some grumbling (children being shilden) as Svalina gathered up Sleepy Willy in her robes and made her way to the door. She bade the the children sweet dreams with a touch here and there and a kiss on the forehead for some, and for a few a tuck of a blanket for those who had allready dropped off to sleep. The Matron quietly Let her out the door with words of appreciation. Once out side Svalina made here way home remembering the first time she had ever laid eyes apon the wind serpent Washte Pawne so many years ago in the southern barren along the gold road. She went though the back gate to the house so as not to wake anyone when there in the garden she saw glowing softly the form of a bird much like one of the great water cranes and a serpent. she stopped still in her track in surprise knowing them both as the brother and sister spirits of Birds and Serpents. No words were said but both appeared to give here a nod of approval before fading out of sight. She stood outside under the light of the softly glowing stars and the distant glow of the cities many watch fires for a bit in wonder at what she had seen for few of the mortal realms ever saw the spirits as they truely were. She sighed quietly that such wonder still existed, then gathering her cloak about her went into the hall, up to her chanbers and took her self to sleep, where she knew she would dream along with the children of wind serpents and wonder.

Re: Childrens stories of Warcraft
With Theotaz and Svalina off at Afrey Island the house was quiet. Kheliosrham hoped for the best for her friends but was certain a long and bloody fight was sone to be. Svalina had promised to visit the children at the Orgrimaar orphanage this evening but that was a promise she would be unable to keep. Kheliosrham had redily agreed to go in her place but had yet to decide what story to tell. As the sun started to set she could hear the bellows in the distance of the Thunder Lizards... She smiled. Yes, how a certain great lizard became blue.. it would be perfect! She went to the kitchen to prepare sweets for the children while sending Dulucre off to the Orphanage to inform the matron of the change in plans. As she prepared treats she hummed to her self happily. I would be good to spend time with the orphans again, for she herself had come of age in that very hall.
