The Razing of Shadowfang Keep

As the hour grew late Filarius spoke over the guildstone. “You will have to excuse me my tribe but it seems that Silverpine is suffering under the deprivations of forces from Shadowfang Keep. This unholy presence must feel the purifying fire. It is overrun and must be cleansed.” Despite offers to go with him Filarius refused insisting on going it alone. His stone grew silent and nothing further was heard. The hours dragged on after the Paladin entered Shadowfang Keep and a column of smoke rose from inside the keep as if it were a giant fire pit. The blaze could be seen all the way from Undercity and shown a warm glow against cloak of night. A party from Sepulcher was sent out to investigate and as they neared the keep they could see the raging pyre it had become and the flames leapt above the towers burning the wooden structures to ash. Even the undead could smell the stench of roasted flesh and burnt hair as they rounded the bend.nnA metallic shadow sat bathed in the golden light of the pyre on the stone railing by the great summoning stone. He had not bothered to look at the undead as they approached and they drew closer to the figure. Filarius sat there reclining and finally stood up regarding the undead, he was bathed in blood up to his chest and his armor looked as if he had waded through a pool of it with streaks smeared across his face. The Blood Elf looked over them dispassionately and reached up to wipe the blood off his mouth and turned his head spitting a stream of it onto the stone pathway. The undead grinned a bit at the gruesome sight and chuckled to each other, to see a Blood Elf soaked in blood was an odd sight even for them. Filarius grinned back and held up a Worgen arm that had been ripped from its socket. “The keep has been cleansed of its unholy plague, it should be a while before they can regroup their forces.” He stepped closer to the bridge looking with some satisfaction at the blaze. “Yes, a purifying fire to consume them and their evil, just as all such evil will be consumed by the holy fire.” He grinned darkly looking aloof and folded his arms before looking up as a great pair of wings flapped towards them.nnThe undead stood back as a huge red proto-drake landed with a loud thud on the pathway. It growled and pressed its huge muzzle against Filarius’ chest and licked at his armor and face. He smiled and scratched its muzzle and held up the severed worgen arm and plopped it into the drake’s waiting mouth. The Paladin watched as the drake devoured the arm in a few moments only chewing briefly before bolting it down and murring loudly. Filarius rubbed a hand along its neck and the drake knelt down allowing him to mount. He glanced back at the undead and gave a slight nod before giving the drakes reins a tug and he flew off over the blazing pyre that was now Shadowfang Keep.nnReports went out of the deed that was done and it was true that the forces inside had been utterly decimated and their bodies burnt to cinders. Yet the corpses bore horrible witness to the Paladin’s methods for those that were not utterly burnt to ash were ripped to pieces as if by some monster rather than sliced with a sword. The undead seemed not to care about the brutality of the Paladin’s methods but it was clear the Worgen suffered greatly as they died with twisted expressions of horror and corpses had their entire lower halves ripped off and only the shoulders and head remained while the entire torso from the ribcage down was missing.nnDays later a passing apprentice from Dalaran told of his night traveling close to the Greymane wall when he saw the keep burning and heard inhuman roars and screams of monsters as they met a horrible end. Amidst multiple helpings of ale the traveler told of a great shadow against the fire and demonic wings against the starry sky. Was it too much ale or just a traveler seeing a proto-drake for the first time or something else?
