The Story of Two brothers - Prolouge - The Scourge Invasion

Postby Iceot » Tue Feb 09, 2010 5:46 am

((I just wanted to say before I begin. You've probably read my previous story (and if you haven't don't bother) and I just wanted to say that since that point I have (hopefully) improved my writing ability and skill with literature. In any case, I did wanna point out two things. #1 Is that I tend to use a lot of commas, so if you think you see too many...that's just me ^^;. #2 In this story the two Ice's are actually brother's instead of one person ripped in two, which was my original angle on the story, but I somehow decided I didn't like it. I should also state that they are about 7 years old in this story. Oh! And I outta add that both character's have different names originally...(Let's see if you can figure out who is who!). (*shrug*) Without further ado, the Story of Iceot and Iceion!))nn((The story is set around the time of the scourge invasion of Silvermoon, around the destruction of the sunwell. Based upon the survivors who lived in the ruined city of Silvermoon. Though I can assure you, Sunfrost spire never existed in-game...I get away with it because in my RP it has been covered by the destruction known as "The Dead Scar".))nnThis is the story of two brothers who, despite all odds, stayed bonded together at the very soul...even through death itself...nnn|---|nThe sound of four boots pounded on the dirt road. Two small figures ran down the road as fast as their legs could carry them.nn“Brother! Wait for me!”.nnThe figure in the lead stopped, and turned.nn“You gotta keep up Exavium! We can't keep stopping if we're gonna make it in time for the speech!” The boy who had been in lead said.nn|---|nThis is the story of two twin brothers, Exavium and Dera'brash Sunfrost. They were born the sons of Magister Ca'rath Sunfrost, Master of Sunfrost Spire and Lieutenant Jaeda Lightwhisp. The two met at a Banquet and hit it right off. Ca'rath was studying the current scourge epidemic, and Jaeda was working under the blood knights to heal the wounded. After only a year and a half of waiting, Ca'rath proposed, and the two were married only 4 months later. They moved to Sunfrost spire and before long...they were expecting their first children. Jaeda stepped down as a Lieutenant, so that she could raise the children herself. When they heard they were having twins, they were ecstatic! On the day of their birth, two twin boys were born. The first was dubbed Dera'brash, and from the moment he was born, he was stating his commanding presence. The second was dubbed Exavium, and for most of his first years, he was nearly completely silent. As they grew up, Dera'brash often took the lead, with Exavium following close behind. Dera'brash was reckless, strong, well-rounded and good at making decisions. While Exavium was intelligent, mischievous, resourceful and kind. However, both boys were intrigued with Ore and Minerals, and ended up centering their professions around it. Dera'brash took up Jewelcrafting, as he enjoyed cutting and shaping the shining stones. While Exavium enjoyed using the metals to make Goggles, guns, bombs and all kinds of Gadgets and doo-dads. nn|---|nAs Exavium struggled to keep up with Dera'brash on the dirt road, he called out once again...nn“Wait up brother!”. At that moment, a foot was pushed out in front of his path, and he tripped, falling on his face. He looked up quickly, seeing his brother run even farther from sight. He was then lifted from his position by six arms. nn“Hey Exavium! What's up? Still as clumsy as ever I see!” A slick haired boy said rather rudely. Exavium stared up at him “H-hello Terrivar...”. The boy laughed, “Y'know...You still owe me for my Yo-yo that you broke!”. Exavium's eyes shot up in surprise, “B-but...I fixed it for you! That seems like it would be worth the same amount...doesn't it?”. The boy laughed again, “I need money! So I can buy a brand new Yo-yo! Even better than this one...now that it's all messed up.”nnExavium muttered “Better than new already...crappy little Yo-yo...”. Terrivar grabbed his shirt collar and pushed him to the ground, “Better than any of the garbage you create!” he said. Exavium was almost to the point of crying, when suddenly somebody stepped up and lifted Terrivar off the ground.nn“You're a nuisance...you know that? And why aren't you at the square? The event starts in a few minutes!” Dera'brash said, cocking his head to one side, grinning grimly at the boy. “I-i-i....I w-was on my way there!” Terrivar said, fear in his eyes and voice. “Good..” Dera'brash said, dropping Terrivar quite abruptly.nn“C'mon Exavium!” Dera'brash said, helping him up quickly. “O-ok b-brother...” Exavium said shakily. Terrivar stared angrily at the departing boys. “I'll get you one of these days Dera'brash! You can't protect your nerdy little brother forever!” he said, as he motioned for his goons to follow him in running along the main road to get to the town square. nn“Thanks again brother...” Exavium said, gripping his brothers hand as he adjusted his goggles with the other. “No sweat...just try not to get in trouble so much okay?” Dera'brash said, smiling wide at his brother, pulling him along. Exavium smiled back, and nodded, “Okay!”.nn|---|nNight fell quickly, the speeches were over, no more sparring. The two boys walked home wearily. When they got there, they were greeted by their mother's soft embrace. “You two look awfully tired...” she said, smiling, “Had a long day again?”. The two boys nodded, smiling back. Jaeda ruffled their hair quickly, and kissed them both on the forehead, “Get upstairs and get ready for bed! I'll come up in just a little while with your story-book, alright?”. The boys looked at each-other quickly, the back at her. They replied in almost perfect harmony, “Alright!” and rushed off toward their room.nnTheir room looked out towards the expanse of Eversong Forest, and they had moved their beds closer to the window, so they could look out at the stars at night. As they finished getting ready, and jumped into their beds, they heard the footsteps of their mother coming up the spiral staircase to their room. She entered, smiling. “Are you both ready for your story?” she said. They nodded. Their mother relayed the story of a dragon slayer, who bravely slayed a dragon and saved a princess, and then... “Let me guess...” Dera'brash said, “Lived happily ever after?”. His mother giggled, and nodded. “Aw c'mon! They can never end a story in something less corny than that?!” he said, crossing his arms. Exavium held his pillow tighter to his chest, “I dunno brother...I kinda like that all the good stories have a happy ending...it means that everybody gets to be happy in the end.”. Dera'brash looked over for a moment, and then shot a disgusted looked, “Tch...weirdo”.nnTheir mother walked over to each respective bed, pulled the covers over that son, and kissed them good night. As she walked down the hall back toward her room, she noticed a light on down the hall. She opened the door to a man with many papers and half-opened books scattered around him. “Still up Ca'rath?” she said. He turned, “Oh...yes...am I keeping you awake?” he said politely. She shook her head, “No...I just wish that you would at least try to rest...you're so tired lately Ca'rath”. He sighed, “I just have this...feeling! Something is coming, I need to finish this work soon!” He said, rubbing his forehead with his fingers. He looked up at her softly, “Are the boys asleep?”. She nodded. “Good...” he said, smiling. “I'm glad that they get along so well...they will probably need each-other in the future. Who knows! With a mind like Exavium and a Body like Dera'brash...they could probably defeat evil itself!”. The man and woman laughed quietly, before the man blew out the candle and they walked quietly back to their room.nn|---|nThe next morning was...not right. Exavium and Dera'brash were quickly awakened by screaming. The two jumped out of bed and ran on to the balcony. They saw many Blood elves fleeing towards Silvermoon City. As they looked out, they saw the cause...Scourge. Hundreds- Nay- Thousands! The Undead came up Eversong forest, leaving a path of death and destruction in their wake. Dera'brash and Exavium quickly got dressed, pulled on their wooden swords, and ran out the door of their home. They were soon greeted by their mother. “What are you two doing?!” she said, fear covering her face. “What's going on?!” Dera'brash asked, Exavium simply whimpered. “Come now...you need to get away from here! Run to the city, alright?” She said, stern faced, she really meant it this time. Dera'brash opened his mouth to protest, but soon thought better of it.nnThe two brother's began running, but then, they heard a large cracking sound, and then much burning. They both turned at the same time...horror struck them with what they saw...Sunfrost spire burning with cinders. The undead had passed the Spire, and it was now burning down. Exavium almost started crying, but Dera'brash grabbed his arm and started dragging him toward the city. Suddenly Dera'brash tripped, something was pulling at him. He looked over at his brother screaming, a ghoul had grabbed on to Exavium's leg! “Brother! Help me!” Exavium cried, fear striking all over his face. Dera'brash pulled his little wooden sword and charged. He struck the ghoul so hard, it's head came off.nnExavium jumped up, grabbed his brother's arm, and started running even faster. Once again, Dera'brash tripped, this time the sword falling from his hands. Exavium tripped as well, and looked back. There was a skeleton grabbing at Dera'brash this time. Exavium jumped up and ran at the Skeleton, sword in hand, tears pouring from his eyes. But at that very moment, Dera'brash was grabbed by his leg, and Exavium was picked up at the waist. Both were carried in different directions. Exavium had been picked up by a passing priest, and Dera'brash by a rough looking Death Knight. The brother's faces were fearstruck. nnThey simply looked at each-other in shock for a moment, and then just before they were out of each-others earshot...they cried out...nn“BROTHER!” They yelled in unison.nnEach had tears welling up in their eyes, babbling insistently and staring at the other. As they got further and further apart, they finally were silent, and cried until they ran out of tears. nn|---|nDera'brash was roughly set down in front of some Death Knights. They laughed, and one of them raised a blade, intent on plunging it into Dera'brash. But in his eyes they did not see fear, but hate. The anger and hatred welled up inside him, and he sprang up and rammed one of the Death Knights with his shoulder, knocking him over. It just so happened, a High-lich was passing by at that moment, and he looked at the boy with interest. As they were about to put Dera'brash to death, the High-lich raised up his hand. “Do not slay him...take him back to Archerus...put him in one of the prison cells.” The Death knights looked, puzzled, but they saluted and followed his orders, dragging Dera'brash away...nnWhen Dera'brash awoke, he was in a cell made with bone. There was a seat on the back wall, and a strange table-like object. He saw a strange Death Knight walk over to his “cage”. “Oy...so yer awake hmm? Well...better feed you...but don't die alright? His majesties orders...” The Death knight shot him an evil grin, and instead of food, sent in a floating skull. It was suspended and animated with dark energy, and it swooped in for Dera'brash. The boy easily dodged, and the kicked the skull against the wall, growling as he did so. The Death Knight clapped, and handed the boy his “food”...some Mushrooms and a stew-like substance. “I'm impressed...but don't let down your guard...it'll only get hard from here. We're to send a minion before each of your meals, and if you win, you get your meal. If you lose...well...”. He grinned darkly, and cackled heartily as he walked off...nnHe was all alone...nn|---|nExavium was taken to a shelter in Silvermoon City, where he constantly cried out for his Mother, his Father...his Brother. They tried to comfort him, only to fail. eventually he passed out from exhaustion, and fell into a terrifying sleep, clutching his own hand-made robot toy. He was awoken, told that the fight was over, with many casualties, and many missing. Though he tried to ask where his family was, nobody seemed to know...nnAs days went on, he continued going on...without much food...sleeping in back alleys and on doorsteps. Finally, they brought out lists. He cried out in horror and shock. His Father was declared dead, buried with the ruins of Sunfrost spire by the undead. His mother and brother were posted as missing, though they said that Dera'brash had been sighted with Death Knights, and there was little hope he had survived. Exavium ran outside the city, terror filling his eyes. He saw the destruction, he couldn't believe his eyes. He sat down, with his knees curled in, he hugged them to his chest and wept. “Are you alright, child?” A woman said, kneeling down to face him. Exavium sniffled, without even thinking, he wrapped his arms around her neck. She was surprised, but she patted his back. She sat down herself, and held him in her lap for a few moments. Finally he pulled away, and sniffled, “I-i'm sorry...I...I just...I mi-...” he tried to choke out words, but they wouldn't come. The woman frowned, “I understand...It's alright...really no bother.” she said. “Do you...have anywhere to stay?” she said, looking at the boy again. He looked up, thought for a moment, then shook his head. “Come with me” She said, leading him on. nnThe woman ended up taking him in, and becoming his “temporary” guardian. She was a lower-ranking officer in the Blood knights, training the initiates and such. She was named Myrana Clearwhisper. And she lived in the Bazaar district of Silvermoon City. She had Exavium enlisted for training. Though Exavium was very glad for his new home, and for his friend, and even his training!...deep in his heart...something was missing...nnHe was alone...
