Authenticator Options - Mobile Authenticator
I've considered getting an Authenticator for a while now, but wasn't in any hurry - I'm not an officer, so no danger to the guild were I hacked - just a massive headache to deal with. I also wasn't excited at having another piece of electronics to carry around with me, but figured I'd pick one up eventually.nnSo, seeing Thoka's note (thanks for sharing it, Thoka!) about the dial-in authenticator service Blizzard is offering (see post at http://thenyx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6586) and seeing a note about a mobile authenticator service, I took a look at both.nnThe mobile authenticator purports to be doable from some cell phones, an iPhone, or an iPod Touch. I'm unsure about iPad, but would guess it should work there if it works on a Touch.nnI've got a Touch, so I picked it up. It's free, download/install took less than a minute, and associating the authenticator app with my account was quick and easy (less than 5 minutes, certainly). I haven't signed into the game yet, since I'm work, but can update this later.nnAfter the initial association, the FAQ said I wouldn't need an active wireless connection to use the authenticator function, unless I needed to resync the app - I'll update if/when that happens.nnSo, to reiterate: free, easy, authenticated, core hound pet, don't have *another* piece of electronics to keep track off (my phone and iPod Touch are more than I'd prefer, already).

The only problem with this is if you forget your phone/device at work or elsewhere. I arived home tonight and noticed that I did not have my phone so I had no way of accessing my Battlenet account. So no WoW or SC2

nnThis ^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!1!nnI've done that too many times during my learning process of rooting my phone(s). Calling into Blizzard to get the authenticator off cause you wiped your phone is not an easy task. nnEasiest thing to do is to remove the authentication before doing any wiping of a phone, then put it back on(I don't trust backing up the data)Wylair wrote:Also don't wipe your phone unless you know the serial number

nnYeah store the serial number for any of the authenticators in a safe place. The hardware ones have a tendency to fall off of keychains. I know mine has fallen off my keychain 3 times, the third time actually breaking the plastic that holds the connector in, so I just keep it at my computer now.Revah wrote:nnThis ^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!1!nnI've done that too many times during my learning process of rooting my phone(s). Re: Authenticator Options - Mobile Authenticator
In the app discussion/feedback thread, some folks related that they'd chosen or had to do a reset of their iPhone/Touch and didn't have a copy of their serial number - with the serial number in hand, it's apparently much easier to work through the system to get yourself set up again or remove an authenticator.nnThe best of all possible worlds, though, would be to remove the authenticator from your account, do the wipe/reset/reload, and then reinstall with the app.
