RP Question... 8)

There was a Lore meeting a while back, lead by Dracmorda and Swanthula. At that meeting many topics were discussed and decided on by the members of the Ward of Lore.nnOne of the topics discussed and decided by the Ward was the use of abbreviations and things such as my (at that time) signature of 8) at the end of nearly everything I said, since I am so bloody cheerful most of the time.nnSince it was decided that things of that nature are not in keeping with RP standards, I have worked very hard to train myself not to use it, and use things like *smiles warmly* or *grins* instead of 8). And since my fingers do that automatically, or did, and had been doing so for many many years, that was a major accomplishment for me.nnI noticed at last night's event that some folks were using abbreviations and the like. Plz... TY... and things of that nature, just for example (and I am NOT shaking fingers!!!).nnI just want to know...nHas the standard changed? And what is the Ward's position now?nn*grins and prepares to tell her fingers that "8)" is ok.... looking hopefully*nn8)nnOh oh..... Oppsie !!nBad fingers!! Bad, Bad!!nn*smiles warmly!!*

As far as I know, it's something we've been trying to avoid as much as possible which has been really hard since we don't exactly have any role models who can keep this in check. I hate to admit being guilty of this myself, but I do what I can to be IC when I chat in Gchat. My opinion, we need to get some UCs up who can provide great role models and prove themselves as leaders.

I both type everything out, AND never use emoticons, ever.nnWhile I realize not everyone is me, I just don't understand the concept of emoticons/abbreviations that save you having to type three letters, in character or out.nnEmoticons I can tolerate to some degree, even if I despise them with every fiber of my being. But I find it rather obnoxious to see people in character using lol or plz and things in their sentences, it makes little to no sense for your character to be using text speak.nnBut I'm hardly going to dish out beatings over the matter.

It is my personal feelings that abbreviations have no place in a serious rp. nnI find it difficult to actually keep a straight rp when i see lol, TY, pls. Or any of the faces...My reccomendation ios pleple do as Lah has done and make the effort to not use these but rather.nn*Smiles*n*laughs*n*grins*n*eats a sandwhich*nnUsing the ** can describe what your character is doing in /g chat and, I do not wish to stomp on any toes but it would be nice to see more of that in our rp.

I am not an active guild member anymore :P But I am wondering what kind of guild do we want Nyx to be? Do we still welcome casual players like myself? nnwhile I understand 'lol' might be inappropriate for formal RP events, I feel asking every Nyx member to type 'smiles warmly' instead of ':)' in gchat all the time might scare some people away (like myself LOL).

No xcoot we are not wanting to become hard hard core people in that sens but we do want people when an rp is going on to try and refrain from doing it. In an OOc chat I dont mind it at all infact I do it to. But when I say in rp I mean when people are innvovled in a serious rp. Not like in a goofy rp or a OOc ...just when its a serious rp but even then its up to you.
