Sounds like the 5th ward is a parking spot for people who contribute nothing to the guild. I've said this before in other posts that have been since removed - why do we countenance the useless? What is our recruiting strategy if we have to allot for people joining who won't commit to defending other members of the guild, or commit to furthering our raid ambitions, or commit to RP, or commit to helping the guild grow purposefully? Directionless growth leads to cancer.nnI say close recruiting entirely, suss out who's here to help the collective, politely remove those who aren't, and then see what's left.nnMembership is a privilege, not a right.nnRespectfully, nnT

I would agree with you on the above, Thomasbecket, but there are many that are interested in RP , but not interested in the bigger commitments that the wards offer. And some just want the chance to level, without outside distraction, until they get to 80. n

Really Gorehorn's idea of downranking to inactive to booting seems to fit. The standards should not be overly hard to meet if you join the ward that suits your playstyle. If your in war you should want to have PvP gear/run BGs/WPvP and if you get downranked to wardless you have some time to find out what ward you fit in and get in it or move out.

nWhat is the purpose of downranking and booting? Is the guild too large? Help me understand what the problem is and the objective, as a newer member I don't understand.nnMost guilds have "Social" or "Casual" ranks. There are no expectations on these members at all. The person can login everyday, or once a week, doing nothing but chatting or gearing up like madmen and women, whatever suits them. They are never downranked or booted for inactivity (aside from the extrem like a person not being on at all for 6 months with no notice). At the same time, these people are at the very bottom of the list for invitations to any activity - raids, battlegrounds, RP events, whatever. The fact that they don't get priority invites to events usually spurs them on to become more active, unless they are truly happy just "hanging out".nnIs the problem that we don't want people just "hanging out"? Or is the problem that we are being too kind and inviting those kinds of people to events like raids, or G&N gear ups, etc? One problem does require downranking and booting to correct, the other requires competition from serious/active Ward members to make invites rare and wonderful things that are denied to "hang out" folks.

Tanaaka brings up a good point, provided the people that are in the casual/social ranking still contribute to the guild by following the basic guild guidelines I don't see this as being a big problem. nnPossible 5th Element Names:nWard of Twilight ((brb lolling forever))nWard of LimbonWard of Eclipse ((not a twilight joke))

I'm with Tanaaka on this. Some want to be part of Nyx, but not be part of it's more intense edge. The Four existing wards are that intense edge. Let's face it , there are some that are really good players, but have limited time in RL due to RL issues. Some who can not commit to the higher standards that, for example, War has just established (thankfully). nnIf the player can not commit the higher standards, to the Fifth Ward they go. They still may be chosen to fill gaps in raids, but they will definitely be second stringers. Apart from that, they get to choose what they want to do, how intensely they want to play, pick ghost mushrooms all afternoon.. go fishing the whole weekend. nnI believe we should create space for this type of player and not penalize them by working them out of Nyx for not being as intense as others are. We have always touted ourselves as the Casual guild that RP's, so let's firmly establish this.

We are doing our best to "Cut" bureaucracy and weed out unneccesary work for our Officers.... Another Ward makes me cringe... Adding more work to G&N makes me cringe...nnAt the end of the day, adding a "Section" to G&N for those that are casual players does not make me cringe as much as a whole new Ward does. And I suppose, as Myyah pointed out earlier, G&N IS Social Services. That is where folk in Limbo really belong.nnCall it the G&N Auxiliary. In it put the Players that are casual, and can be drafted when and where needed as their time permits, and their desire to do something is practical for them participate.

Aww Lah, I was hoping you might pick some of my funny ward names. nnI think it's a good idea to make it an auxiliary position under the G&N flag, thats where most of them end up at the moment anyway. Doing away with a lot of red tape is a great idea. Policy guidelines still need to stay in place and be clearly stated to new members, chasing after people all the time to do this or that does get you down so a smaller amount of paperwork would be nice. And I don't even do any of the paperwork now! nnI'm sure Lah and the other members of the paperwork team would love to get some different calluses on their hands or just take a holiday from time to time.nn((I'm tired, time to stop babbling!))
