Nyx PR Campaign
So it's been said that Nyx has a negative stigma when it comes to various aspects of the game. I know that we do not bow to forum trolls internet attention w&$*^s , but I thought we might brainstorm some ideas for improving our Public Relations communication.nnHere are a couple of things we are already doing, or will be doing soon:nn- increased activity on the official realm forums. For good or ill, there's no such thing as bad press.nn- Summarize our events on the realm forums. Maybe even a weekly newsletter format that recaps the week's events.nn- Keep the front page up to date with our events.nn- Invite other guilds to participate in our events.nn- Create a "Horde Coalition" of guilds and have a monthly GL meeting. (just to RP, BS, discuss tactics, w/e)nnAnyway, can you guys think of anything else we can do to improve our public profile?

nnI think these are good suggestions. I wouldn't worry too much about the realm forums though, it's basically 10 people with no life that troll all day long- they hate and rag on everything (lol). Unless you have a self esteem pill we can feed them, we aren't going to be able to change that.nnI think the best way to improve our image is through success. Raid progression, successful public pvp campaigns, keeping flagrsp active and staying in character when out in the world- these are the things that ultimately will continue to bring Nyx quality members and improve our image overall to the public. Living loud and walking the walk in this game will do it every time.- Keep the front page up to date with our events.n- Invite other guilds to participate in our events.n- Create a "Horde Coalition" of guilds and have a monthly GL meeting. (just to RP, BS, discuss tactics, w/e)

Re: Nyx PR Campaign
It depends on what we want to be known for? If you want to be known for raiding success, then you need players from your guild running around with titles like "Starcaller" and "Kingslayer" and "Undying". If you want to be known for PVP prowess, the key is showing up a lot. People need to see the Nyx tag at large-scale PVP engagements on the server. And, of course, winning those engagements helps. The Cataclysm provides the opportunity to gain success and renown through premade battleground teams as well.nnOf course, the thing that attracted me to Nyx more than any of those things was a reputation for being solid citizens of the game. It's important to be known for not contributing to the constant spew of bilge that is trade chat. RPing effectively and always respecting other people's RP, even if we're not participating. Contributing when we're participating in pickup groups or raids and not being the cause of loot drama. And so on ...nnIn short, the most important thing to me as a player (and for us to do as a guild, as far as I'm concerned) is to make sure that events I'm involved in are positive experiences for the other people involved, whether they're guild events or not. That means showing up on time, communicating effectively, playing my class to the best of my ability, and not whining.

I wouldn't give two thoughts about what's on the realm forums. Seriously. Also, by responding to it, you disprove that there IS such a thing as bad press - lol

I like Grawlix's reply. The key to our success is that we have engaging, fun and positive events that people enjoy. And I agree with the others that realm forums aren't worth our time. The WoW RP forums, or guild relations forums is another matter, and that might do us some good. nnWhat do we need press for anyway? Are we recruiting? We're so big already. Or do we just want to publicize our accomplishments. A weekly/monthly newsletter is a great idea. How about posting it on our site's front page then instead of the ED forums. But that's the same thing as you point #3 :PnnInviting other guilds, very important.nn"Horde Coalition" we had the "Horde Assemby" Myyah was our ambassador there. Get together with him and see what can be done to continue and expand it.

Re: Nyx PR Campaign
I think that some PR could be okay, but... not in any "submissive" manner... rather, perhaps best done in an in-character "matter of fact" manner. I think any PR posts made on the public forums would need to be... done carefully, with any replies to trolling, if we replied at all to trolling, would need to be... well-thought-out. nnIf we did this to any extent on the public forums, my suggestion would be to do so in-character, and from a "presentation" sort of view.... perhaps like... (I'm being very vague here) "We are Nyx, this is what we are, and we do this, and this, and this. We recently did this, and that." When the ZOMG LOLLERSKATES U GUYS PHAIL HEY MY NAME IS LOLLERBOMB MY CAT LIKES CHEEZBURGERZ replies start, we should not reply to that in any shape form or fashion on the forums. Chances are, most replies of this will be anonymous. If some aren't anonymous, we could consider replying by the most wondrous method.... PvP... all the while maintaining RP.nnIn summary, I think any PR posts we do on the public forums should be "matter of fact", and perhaps "in-character" if possible.nnnI'm sure the first few times we posted this, we'd HAVE to report our own threads because of the flames and old-grudge types of garbage that the jealous/bitter anonymous posters would post, causing the post to get removed. But if we maintained an obvious manner of professional civility in the thread, I think public posting MIGHT be okay. It would require a lot of time spent monitoring it though.nnnEven if we didn't do any frequent public posting, I'm all for keeping the front page of the site frequently updated with what we do. If the guild wants to work out some system where events and such are flagged for posting on the front page, designating whoever to type up "articles" and such or whatever... I'll help in any way I can. I think regardless of what we do publically on the public forums, we can really get our name out moreso than ever in a positive way with our front page.nnnEveryone's heard about Nyx. That's definitely not an issue. I think we can just cover the front page with what we do, update it regularly and our excellence will be more obvious than before.nnThe thing that convinced me to apply to join the guild was viewing posts and screenshots on the forums of rp/world pvp events, especially the ones that were really detailed. Covering the front page with more of such things will be a nice cup of win!
if Quentin Tarantino did movies in the World of Warcraft...

Kain, is there a WP widget for pulling news from posts on forums? I know with phpBB forums and portals, you can set up your front page to pull posts from a News forum and post them as News automatically on the front page.

Re: Nyx PR Campaign
The realm forum may be frequented by trolls, but it is also used by players who are considering a move to Emerald Dream. Right now, there is no way to tell that Nyx is an active RP guild just from reading it. Neophytes to Emerald Dream (and RP) can't tell we are an active RP guild even when we are in the game world. Horde side RP has languished for far too long.nnLast week, a prospective applicant asked "Do you have events to honor your Lady [Nyx]?" I was embarrassed to even try to answer that question honestly as we have had no Lady Nyx meetings in nearly two months. I answered with "We have regular RP gatherings."nnWe can be great in everything as a guild. Nyx is a cult that reveres an ancient highborne lady. Everything we do should honor her, whether it's bringing in new followers, saving the world from Halion, or striking fear into the Alliance. Excellence not only honrs the Lady Nyx from an RP standpoint, but will bring in new members.

Re: Nyx PR Campaign
((Oh my- an idea of mine being utilized so quickly? I'm delightfully surprised! And it is true that new players to Emerald Dream look at the forums- that's how I learned of Nyx, actually. But on top of that, I had another idea to suggest... Everyone talks about raiding, and pvp... But isn't this 'First and foremost an RP guild'? I suggest a World RP event. Something big that all players in Emerald Dream should know about and be welcome to. Of course, somewhere in Horde Territory, since the trolls (not our blue friends) would be enough trouble- don't need Alliance causing trouble too. A difficult idea, but it would definitely score some brownie points.))
